Angie's List and Thumbtack are advertising platforms. Contractors pay for placement and leads — which means their financial interest is in having as many contractors on the platform as possible, not in having only the best ones. HomeGuard is a certification program. Every Gold Seal contractor earned their credential through six weeks of rigorous business training and an objective final exam — it cannot be purchased. We also monitor ongoing performance and stand behind every project with a standard contract, milestone financing, and a written arbitration backstop. Certified. Monitored. Backed. No other platform does all three.
These are the three things no other home services platform offers simultaneously. Certified — every provider earned their credential through a documented process that cannot be purchased. Monitored — the credential follows the work. A three-tier performance system tracks every provider after certification and the Gold Seal can be revoked if a contractor stops meeting the standard. Backed — we stand behind every job. Standard protective contract, milestone financing, written arbitration backstop, and rescue contractor protocol if someone abandons your project. You are never left alone.
When you hire a HomeGuard Gold Seal certified contractor you know three things instantly. First — they earned a credential through a documented six-week training program and objective exam that cannot be purchased. Second — their performance is monitored after certification and the credential can be revoked if they stop meeting the standard. Third — your project is backed by a standard protective contract, milestone financing, and HomeGuard's arbitration backstop. You are never left alone with a problem.
HomeGuard Premier Seal covers every home service category beyond licensed renovation contracting — landscaping, cleaning, tree removal, restoration, pool maintenance, fencing, outdoor kitchens, security cameras, senior proofing, baby proofing, and more. Every Premier Seal provider is background checked, insured with minimum $1M in general liability, business licensed, reference-verified, and trained in HomeGuard's ethics and customer service standards. Same trust promise as the Gold Seal — different service category.
The parallel is accurate in one important way — the credential cannot be purchased, only earned. Just as Consumer Reports built its credibility on independent evaluation with no advertiser influence, HomeGuard's Gold Seal and Premier Seal are earned through a documented process that no amount of money can shortcut. HomeGuard actually goes further — Consumer Reports evaluates products after they exist. HomeGuard certifies providers before they touch your home, monitors their ongoing performance, and stands behind every job if something goes wrong. Think of it as what Consumer Reports would look like if it existed for home services — with an accountability backstop that Consumer Reports never offered.
Visit homeguardadvantage.com and complete the project submission form. Select your project type, describe the scope, indicate your budget range and timeline, and submit. HomeGuard reviews every submission within 24 hours, provides an unbiased estimate of realistic NJ market pricing, and matches you with a certified provider. Standard HomeGuard contract in place before any NJ contractor shows up. Your payments protected by milestone escrow throughout.
Three service tiers: Project Readiness Consultation — $150 — a 30-minute session providing an unbiased estimate of your project's realistic cost in your NJ county before any contractor is involved. Managed Bid Service — $350 — HomeGuard manages the full bid process on your behalf. Premium Project Launch — $600 — full project management from estimate through contractor selection. Once matched, your costs are the contracted project price managed through the HomeGuard milestone payment system.
You pay through the HomeGuard milestone system. Funds are held and released at verified project milestones — not at the contractor's request. HomeGuard manages the payment flow. The contractor is paid promptly for completed work. You are protected against funding work that has not been done. You never pay more than one milestone ahead of verified completed work.
Yes. HomeGuard covers every home service category through the Premier Seal provider network across New Jersey. Landscaping, floor coating, pool service, tree service, exterior cleaning, snow removal — all eligible through the portal. Every provider vetted and background checked.
HomeGuard serves New Jersey statewide. Submit your project at homeguardadvantage.com and we will confirm availability in your area.
HomeGuard has a three-part response. Step in immediately — you are not left to navigate a dispute alone. HomeGuard contacts the contractor and facilitates resolution. Protect your funds — milestone financing means money is not released for work that has not been completed and verified. Rescue contractor protocol — if a contractor abandons your project HomeGuard assigns a certified replacement contractor to complete the work. We pursue recovery from the original contractor on your behalf.
Every HomeGuard project includes a written arbitration clause designating Success Institute of New Jersey as the neutral arbitrator in any dispute. This means if you and your contractor cannot resolve a disagreement you have a documented, binding process for resolution without going to court. The arbitration backstop is included in every HomeGuard standard contract at no additional cost to you.
The project is divided into defined phases agreed upon in the contract before work begins — framing, rough electrical, rough plumbing, drywall, finishes, completion. When each phase is completed and verified, payment for that phase is released. You never fund more than one phase ahead of completed work. A contractor cannot receive payment for phase three until phase two is verified complete. This protects your money at every stage of the project.
Licensed NJ home improvement contractors — general contractors, electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians — who are actively operating in NJ and want to elevate their business standards, distinguish themselves from competitors, and access a pre-qualified homeowner project pipeline. You must hold a current NJ Home Improvement Contractor registration to apply.
Six weeks. The Master Builder Academy is delivered through Google Classroom — self-paced within the weekly module schedule. Each of the six modules ends with a competency quiz at 80% pass threshold with one retake per module. The Module 5 business plan is reviewed and approved by Dr. Alonso before you sit the final exam. The final comprehensive exam is timed and open note — 90% or above earns the Gold Seal, 80%–89% earns HomeGuard Certified. Background check and financial verification are completed before any credential is issued.
Both tiers require the same six-week Academy and the same background check and financial verification. The difference is performance on the final comprehensive exam. Gold Seal — 90% or above — the distinction tier. Priority placement in the homeowner portal, first right of refusal on incoming projects, Gold Seal for truck and marketing materials. HomeGuard Certified — 80% to 89% — the entry tier. Standard portal listing and lead access. Both are earned — neither is purchased.
The Gold Seal tells every homeowner who sees it that you earned a credential through a process that cannot be purchased. You get priority placement in the HomeGuard homeowner portal, access to pre-qualified project referrals, a standard contract framework that protects you legally, and the Gold Seal for your truck, website, and marketing materials. More importantly — the Gold Seal separates you from every other contractor competing for the same clients. It is the only credential in NJ home services that cannot be bought. Only earned.
The founding cohort is the first 20 licensed NJ contractors to enroll. Tuition is $3,000 — the founding cohort rate only. After 20 spots fill the standard rate is $5,000. Founding cohort members also have their lead referral fees waived on their first three completed HomeGuard projects. Apply at homeguardadvantage.com before the cohort fills.
Once certified you receive an active listing in the HomeGuard homeowner portal. When a homeowner submits a project matching your trade and geography, HomeGuard notifies you. Lead fees are tiered by project size — small projects $150, medium $300, large $500. Founding cohort members have their first three project lead fees waived. Gold Seal contractors receive priority placement — their profiles surface first in homeowner matches.
Gold Seal and HomeGuard Certified contractors renew annually at $5,000. Renewal includes continuing education credits pending NJ Board of Home Improvement approval, performance record review, background check refresh, and financial standing confirmation. The monthly network fee is $200 — which maintains your active portal listing and lead access year-round.
HomeGuard has a three-tier response system. Advisory — HomeGuard contacts you with the complaint and gives you an opportunity to resolve it directly. Intervention — HomeGuard facilitates a formal resolution process including the written arbitration backstop with Success Institute as neutral arbitrator. Suspension — if the issue is not resolved or represents a significant standard violation, your credential is suspended pending review. The goal is always resolution — not punishment. Quality contractors benefit from a platform that holds everyone to the same standard.
Any established NJ home service business outside of licensed renovation contracting. This includes landscaping, lawn care, cleaning services, tree removal and trimming, pool maintenance and installation, snow removal, pest control, restoration and remediation, fencing, outdoor kitchens, security camera installation, smart home installation, senior proofing, baby proofing, and every other home service category homeowners need. If you serve homeowners and you are not a licensed general contractor or licensed trade — the Premier Seal is for you.
Six requirements — all verified before listing: Valid business license for your specific service category. General liability insurance — minimum $1,000,000 per occurrence, certificate on file with HomeGuard. Background check — owner and all employees who enter homeowner properties. Three verifiable customer references — contacted and confirmed by HomeGuard. Three-module training — ethics, business standards, and customer service — delivered through Google Classroom. HomeGuard Standards Agreement — signed commitment to HomeGuard conduct and quality standards.
Visit homeguardadvantage.com and submit a Premier Seal provider application. You will need your business license, proof of general liability insurance, three verifiable customer references, and owner background check authorization. Once your application is reviewed and verified you complete the three-module HomeGuard training program and sign the HomeGuard Standards Agreement. Annual listing fee is $500–$1,000 depending on service category plus $100 per month portal access fee.
The Premier Seal tells every homeowner who sees it that you have been vetted, insured, background checked, and trained to a standard that no directory or review platform requires. You get an active listing in the HomeGuard homeowner portal with exclusive pre-qualified leads — not shared with five competitors simultaneously. You can display the Premier Seal on your truck, website, and marketing materials. And you stand apart from every unvetted operator in your market who is competing for the same clients without meeting any standard.
Every Premier Seal provider re-verifies annually to maintain their listing. Re-verification confirms that your business license remains current, your insurance has not lapsed, and your standing with HomeGuard remains in good order. The annual re-verification fee is $250. This is what separates the Premier Seal from a one-time background check that any directory offers — the standard is maintained year over year, not just at initial application.
When a homeowner submits a service request matching your category and geography, HomeGuard notifies you. Lead fees are tiered by job size — small jobs $25, medium $50, large $75. Leads are exclusive — not sent to multiple competing providers simultaneously. The homeowner specifically chose a Premier Seal vetted provider over an unvetted one before the match is made. These are pre-qualified leads, not cold inquiries.
